A holiday in a quiet, natural environment
An agriturismo is a farm with luxury holiday accommodation. From b&b-rooms and apartments in renovated country homes to luxury private villas. Most of these farms are wine farms and produce olive oil as well, some of them also make homemade jam, or produce honey. You will be staying in the Italian countryside, away from the crowds. An agriturismo is a lovely place to enjoy the glorious Tuscan countryside.
Siena, maybe the prettiest city in Tuscany
Okay, I am prejudiced. Because I live close by. But in my opinion, Siena is probably the most beautiful city in Tuscany. I mentioned the Piazza del Campo. Around this square are lovely little streets where you can wander among ancient houses. And you’ll find enough shops for a whole day’s shopping.
Fancy an espresso or cappuccino? Then head for Torrefazione Fiorella. It’s crowded, all right, but there is a good reason: the coffee is absolutely delicious. Are you looking for a good lunch? Then you must go to Bar il Pulcino. Be there before 1 pm, because after that, the employees of a nearby bank will fill up the place. For the best local specialities, visit Consorzio Agrario Siena. Cheese, pasta, olive oil, salami and wine.
Immediately outside Siena you will find yourself among the characteristic hills, with winding country roads, cypresses and old farms. Many of these farms have been renovated into agriturismos, with comfortable apartments or cosy rooms in a B&B.

I always drink my cappuccino at Torrefazione Caffè Fiorella on a street around Piazza del Campo. They still roast the coffee beans themselves using traditional methods. You can taste the difference! If you like the coffee, you can also buy the beans to take home. It is especially busy in the morning, because many Italians have breakfast in a bar and not at home.
