What is an agriturismo?

An agriturismo is a farm offering rooms or apartments for holiday makers. From b&bs to luxurious villas or apartments or restored country homes. An agriturismo is small-scale, and beautifully situated in the countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Most agriturismos make olive oil and wine, and some also grow grain and vegetables. It may have a restaurant too – serving local specialities – that is also frequented by the locals. In short: tranquillity, space, and conviviality. 

Fun facilities for all ages

An agriturismo is fun for the whole family. Practically all of the properties selected by me have a swimming pool: a must-have in the hot summer months! Some agriturismos have several swimming pools, including one with a jacuzzi for instance, or a paddling pool. Agriturismos that focus on being child-friendly will also have a playground, a games field, a tennis table or even farm animals! Your children will easily find playmates and not get bored. By now, most of the properties have wifi too; nice for young and old. 

Savour the local cuisine

Italy is the country of good food. Italian cuisine is full of variety. Some agriturismos have their own restaurant. Here you can savour local dishes. Field-to-fork: prepared using fresh products from the farm or another farm nearby. Some agriturismos organise communal dinners. Like a pizza-evening or a tasting of local dishes.

Long, balmy evenings enjoying each other’s company over a shared outdoor dinner: that completes the picture of your unforgettable summer holiday in Italy. 

Famous cities and picturesque villages to visit

You can usually find several picturesque villages near to your agriturismo. You can visit them and saunter through their atmospheric streets and alleyways, browse in the shops, treat yourself to an ice-cream, or just chill out over a coffee. Are you a fan of culture?
