A family-friendly resort in the heart of Umbria
When I visit an agriturismo for the first time, I am always curious to see whether it lives up to the photos and description that I’ve received. The more I saw of this small family resort, the more enthusiastic I became. It’s situated in central Umbria: the green heart of Italy. It is an old hamlet built on the side of a hill with lovely views of the countryside, woods and hills. The dwellings of the old village have been lovingly restored and now house 31 apartments. Just as the villagers used to do in times gone by, guests can take part in village life on the two little piazze. Everything is modern and comfortable now, but the feel of earlier times still lingers on.
What I often hear in Italy is ‘amo la mia terra’ (I love my native soil); the Italians are proud of their heritage, and so is the owner of this family resort. He moved to Luxembourg in the fifties, but returned 60 years later and bought the old hamlet in the village where he was born. In 4 years, he and his son turned it into stunning holiday accommodation. The family has a background in the restaurant business, and produce their own wine at a farm about 30 minutes’ drive away. On request, they organise wine tastings there for their guests.
Perfectly situated for fascinating day trips.
The surrounding area is ideal for hiking and bicycle tours. If you are more adventurous, you may want to go rafting or visit the caves of Frasassi. There is no shortage of enchanting towns and villages either! UNESCO-listed Assisi is just a 30-minute drive away. Perugia - the capital of Umbria - only takes 45 minutes. And within an hour you can reach Lake Trasimeno, or the beautiful medieval towns of Gubbio and Norcia in the Apennines. A baker, butcher and small supermarket are just 10 minutes away by car. There is a larger town with shops and supermarkets 15km distant.
Two swimming pools, a pool bar, restaurant and pizzeria
The reception, restaurant, pizzeria and bar are situated in the lower section of the property. The chef who is in charge of the restaurant’s kitchen is young and passionate and creates delicious Umbrian dishes from fresh seasonal produce and local ingredients. The pasta is made fresh every day, and the desserts too are homemade. Breakfast is included in the price and is served in the restaurant as well.
From time to time, live music is played on the small piazza. You can also find a small bottega (delicatessen) there, selling local products. The upper part of the resort has two swimming pools: one for adults, the other a shallow pool for children. A great place to relax and cool down with a lovely cool drink from the bar next to the pool, where one can also indulge in an ice-cream or tasty lunch. There is also a fun playground and a large open field perfect for play.
The resort has a total of 31 apartments that vary in size from 45m2 to 170m2. The smallest ones are suitable for 2 people, with one bedroom. The larger apartments have 2 or 3 bedrooms and 1 or 2 bathrooms, and are intended for up to 6 people. Every apartment has an open kitchen with fridge, electric stove, dishwasher and microwave. The apartments are fitted with a 40” TV, a safe and a hairdryer in the bathroom. Since the well-insulated apartments are situated at about 500 metres altitude, the owner has decided not to install air conditioning. Ventilators are provided on request. Guests can find their favourite place to sit outdoors in one of the many comfortable seating areas in the alleyways and gardens, not to mention the pretty piazze.
This resort ticks all the boxes. A comfortable apartment that includes breakfast, a restaurant, a pizzeria and bar, a large playground and two lovely pools. And, of course, the proximity of enchanting historic towns. And a good chance for the kids to find playmates among the many apartments!
