Superb agriturismo with astounding panoramic view of Noto and close to the sea
The view from this agriturismo is absolutely unique. The beautiful baroque city of Noto can be admired in its entirety. While picture-postcard perfect in daylight, it is even more breathtaking at night! And romantic! The agriturismo is situated in the hills, only 1.5 km from the city centre. Noto is not only known for its splendid buildings, but it’s also a lively, invigorating place. There are many shops, bars and restaurants, and the centre is perfect for strolling around. Most of the restaurants offer aperitifs on their terraces: a drink accompanied by local tasty titbits.
The agriturismo has 2,000 almond trees, and produces its own olive oil. When I was there, they had just started harvesting almonds. They beat the nuts from the trees using long sticks, and catch the falling nuts in nets. A time-consuming and intensive task. The almonds are used in cakes, with breakfast, in muesli, and to make a wonderfully refreshing granita (a kind of sorbet).
Swimming pool with panoramic view and a bar
The proprietress manages the agriturismo together with her husband and brother. She lives there too, so that there is always someone there in case of questions or requirements. The rooms are built around a beautiful inner yard with an olive and a carob tree, typically Sicilian. There is a large infinity pool in the agriturismo’s garden, complete with sun loungers, and a panoramic view of the old town. There is also a bar by the swimming pool, where you can order drinks or a bite to eat from 12:00 to 7 in the evening. Simple lunch dishes are served there, e.g. sandwiches, grilled sandwiches and salads, and nice bites to eat with a drink (Bruschetta, for instance). When the weather is fine, breakfast is served on the pergola-shaded terrace, with a view of Noto.
The rooms
The seven rooms of the agriturismo are situated around the beautiful inner courtyard, and all have their own terrace or little garden. The rooms are equipped with airco, wifi, satellite TV, a hair dryer and a mini-bar. Some of the rooms can accommodate an extra bed.
Beach
The beach at Noto, with several fun beach pavilions is only a 10-minute drive away. A beautiful sandy beach in a nature reserve can be found 20 minutes away. Another must-see is the old fishing village Marzamemi (30 minutes) that now has more restaurants than fishermen. Other places within reach that I can recommend are Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Scicli and Syracusa (Ortigia). If you have a little more time, you can organise a day to Mount Etna.
In short
Magnificent agriturismo with a unique panoramic view of the famous town of Noto. Ideally situated, as it is both near the town and close to the beach!
