Country-style agriturismo in the splendid Lazio countryside
I found this agriturismo quite by chance in the glorious Lazio countryside, halfway between Rome and Umbria, and it immediately intrigued me because of its location in an area which is little known and not very touristy, but which has a lot to offer to those looking for a holiday off the beaten track. The house is in the style of a Tuscan farmhouse.
Just 4 kilometres from the agriturismo, you can catch a train that will get you to the heart of Rome in 50 minutes. Ideal for a day trip without the car! The area as well as being still authentic is full of places to visit. Only 25 kilometres away you will find Viterbo, the famous city of the popes, that besides its pretty medieval centre, has the famous papal baths. Also from here you can explore the charming villages of the province, all within easy reach: Caprarola and Palazzo Farnese, the castle at Orsini and the Soriano nel Cimino beech forest, the sculpture park in Bomarzo, and Civita di Bagnoreggio "the dying city", accessible only on foot across a narrow bridge.
After an excellent coffee I was shown round the property by the proud owners. The farm is surrounded by about two hundred hectares of woods, hazel and olive groves. The whole family is involved and everyone takes care of an aspect of the company that produces hazelnuts and oil. The owners live just a few kilometres away but are often at the agriturismo, precisely because they are engaged in various activities.
The pool, the tavern and a lovely wine cellar
The reception is also a tavern with a small kitchen where, on request, breakfast is served. An area of the tavern, dug into the rock, has been transformed into a small cellar where good wines are kept. Outside there is a beautiful fenced pool with sun beds and umbrellas. The pool also has a slightly shallower area perfect for guests with children. Surrounded by quiet, unspoilt nature, the swimming pool is the perfect place to relax.
The apartments
There are 4 apartments and a small cottage, all with a private outdoor area with table and chairs for outdoor meals. Each apartment is furnished in a rustic Tuscan style and is equipped with wifi and TV. There is one monolocale apartment (studio), one bilocale apartment with one bedroom and two apartments with three bedrooms. The largest and most characteristic of the two (for 8/10 people) is spread over three floors and also has a small terrace at the top of the tower. The charming cottage has a living room with kitchen and a double bed in an open loft.
In short
A rustic and welcoming agriturismo, ideal for families and for those who want to explore a little-known area of Italy. A wonderful pool and hospitable owners who will do everything to pamper you and advise you on the areas to visit and things to do in the area.
