Welcoming agriturismo in the Chianti region near Florence
It was a while since I had been in this part of Tuscany and it once again surprised me how beautiful it is out here. Rolling hills with vineyards and olive groves with a castle, ancient villa or farmhouse here and there. And yet within half an hour of the agriturismo you are in the centre of Florence.
I was warmly welcomed by a young couple who had converted the old farmhouse, which had already been in the family for decades, into a cosy agriturismo. They live on site and they are engaged in the production of olive oil and wine and, of course, the reception of guests.
You need to drive for about 1 kilometre along a dirt road before you arrive at this quiet place with typical Tuscan views. The nearest village with a grocery store, bakery and bar is about 5 minutes away by car. Once week (on request and only with sufficient interest) they organise a shared diner (25 euro) or a light meal with cold cuts and finger food (15 euro). Less than a kilometre from the agriturismo (you could walk there) is a good restaurant that is open each evening.
The agriturismo is ideally situated for visiting Florence and the Chianti region. Greve in Chianti with its distinctive and charming town square is about 20 minutes away and in that area are numerous wineries where they have wine tastings. But also famous places like San Gimignano and Siena can be reached in an hour.
Rooms and pool
The agriturismo has one room on the ground floor and two on the first floor. Also on the first floor is a spacious suite with a bedroom and a separate living room with a 2-seater sofa bed. Ideal for those who want more space or for a family of four. All rooms are simply furnished and have a modern bathroom. There is also an apartment with two bedrooms and a living room with open kitchen and fireplace. In the garden among olive trees is a panoramic pool with stunning views over the hills.
In short
Cosy agriturismo with enthusiastic and welcoming owners. Ideal for those looking for tranquility in a beautiful and typical Tuscan setting and who are keen to visit the Chianti region and cities like Florence and Siena.
