Agriturismo near Mount Etna, for wine lovers

This agriturismo will be heaven for wine lovers, as it is a renowned Sicilian winery with several vineyards scattered over the island. It is spectacularly situated at the foot of Mount Etna, and its vineyards grow on the mountain’s slopes. The estate consists of 60 hectares of land, in total, and there are several hiking routes on the site. The vineyards fan out from the rooms, the terrace and the swimming pool. When I was there, in September, the pleasant scent of ripe grapes hung in the air, and they had just started with the vendemmia (grape harvest).

The agriturismo is a perfect base for trips to the volcano. Within 30 minutes you will find yourselves driving up the northern slope, and from there you can go up to the higher levels by chair lift. There is also an adventure park nearby, offering diverse outdoor activities. A visit to Taormina is definitely worthwhile too. This charming tourist town is situated in the hills, with fantastic views of the sea. There are many restaurants in this town, as well as bars, terraces and little shops, many of them selling jewellery or ceramics. In the vicinity of the agriturismo (less than 10 km away) are about 20 restaurants, and the manager of the agriturismo is happy to point out the best ones.

Wine next to the swimming pool

On request, the agriturismo organizes several wine tastings. They have made a wine bar for these events, with a tasting room. You can also ask for a light lunch to go with it. The wine bar is next to the pool, and also serves simple dishes during the day (e.g. assorted cheese platter, salata caprese). From the loungers around the pool, you have a magnificent view of Mount Etna.

If you want to learn more about the wines, you can go on a wine tour. Finally, there is a wine shop in the agriturismo which sells all the 35 kinds of wine that they produce. For sports-minded guests, there is a well-equipped gym with a view of the agriturismo’s vineyard.

The rooms

The agriturismo has 10 double rooms in total, all with a view of the surrounding vineyards. In some of the rooms an extra bed can be added. The rooms are provided with airco and Wifi. When the weather is fine, breakfast is served on the terrace, with views of the vineyard.
