A place to slow down: a small borgo with restaurant in the heart of Tuscany
This agriturismo is set in unspoilt countryside, centrally located in Tuscany yet clearly off the beaten track. The final 1.8 kilometres are along an unpaved road that winds through olive groves and cypress trees. This approach is very much part of the experience: the pace slows, the surroundings grow quieter and everyday bustle naturally falls away. Wildlife is part of daily life here, and it is not unusual to see deer, foxes or squirrels along the way.
The property consists of a small historic borgo that has been carefully restored over recent years. Rather than starting from scratch, the focus has been on preserving what was already there, using natural materials such as stone, wood and terracotta. The atmosphere is authentic and understated, with the level of comfort expected today.
One of the great strengths of this agriturismo is its location. It is surrounded by nature, yet remarkably central. Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra are all within an hour’s drive, while the heart of the Chianti Classico region can be reached in around thirty minutes. Walking routes start directly from the borgo and lead through forests and rolling hills. The area is also well suited to mountain biking and e-biking; several e-bikes are available to reserve on site. A nearby riding stable offers the opportunity to explore the landscape on horseback.
Restaurant, breakfast and swimming pool
The buildings are arranged around an open courtyard that forms the heart of the borgo and naturally becomes a place to meet and linger. From here, the garden unfolds, with a variety of quiet corners and seating areas where guests can easily find a spot of their own.
The swimming pool is set slightly higher on the property and looks out over the surrounding hills and countryside. With sun loungers and shaded areas, it is an easy place to spend a slow afternoon, whether reading a book or doing very little at all.
For children who enjoy being outdoors, there is plenty of space to play, well away from traffic. A few simple play structures are available, along with a table tennis table and a billiard table.
There is also a large multifunctional room, used for shared dinners, small gatherings or, thanks to reliable Wi-Fi, for those who may need to work from time to time.
The restaurant is very much part of everyday life here. After a day exploring the Chianti or visiting Florence or Siena, there is no need to go anywhere else. Guests can simply stay put and enjoy a good dinner, perhaps beginning with an aperitivo at sunset and a glass of local wine. The kitchen works with seasonal ingredients from the vegetable garden and from small producers in the surrounding area. The cooking is unmistakably Tuscan, with a focus on flavour and simplicity, occasionally given a contemporary touch. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available on request (please let us know in advance). The wine list mainly features wines from local producers, many of them organic or biodynamic.
Breakfast is generous and seasonal, with a mix of sweet and savoury options. Fresh fruit, homemade cakes and biscuits, bread and croissants, local cheeses and cured meats, and eggs from the agriturismo’s own hens are all part of the spread. Cappuccino and espresso are, of course, available. In the warmer months, breakfast is served outside in the garden.
The rooms
The agriturismo offers twelve rooms, spread across several buildings within the borgo. These are not standardised rooms; each has its own layout and character. Throughout, the use of natural materials and a calm, restrained interior style reflects the setting.
All rooms have a private bathroom, air conditioning, heating, Wi-Fi and comfortable beds. There are rooms for two guests, more spacious rooms suitable for families, and several suites with additional living space and a small kitchenette. Some rooms are located on the ground floor, while others are on the first floor, with views over the garden or the surrounding landscape. Dogs are welcome on request, provided consideration is shown to other guests and shared areas.
In short
This is an agriturismo for those who consciously choose peace, space and the chance to slow down. The combination of a small borgo, a good restaurant and a central location in Tuscany makes it easy to stay longer than planned. It also works well as a base for exploring the region: within a radius of around 25 to 50 kilometres are many of Tuscany’s most beautiful towns and villages, from medieval hill towns to well-known art cities, easily combined with a quiet stay in the countryside.
