The perfect homebase for a holiday in the North of Italy
This agriturismo is another gem in the category of agriturismos in undiscovered Italy. This agriturismo is situated in Valtellina, one of the most beautiful mountain valleys in Italy, far away from mass tourism. Is there nothing to do there then? On the contrary! There are plenty of interesting activities around, you only need to know where to find them, and be open to new experiences. It's a hobby of this agriturismo’s young owner to surprise his guests with activities that turn their holidays into unforgettable experiences.
Plenty of sporting challenges in the mountains
For guests who are into sports and outdoor activities, there’s a lot to be done at all levels. Always dreamt of hiking up an Alpine mountain peak? The owner will gladly arrange a mountain guide for you. If you prefer less strenuous activity, you can visit Val di Mello. From there, it takes about an hour to hike to a crystal clear mountain lake. At the end of the track is an alpine hut where you can have a lovely meal (I can recommend it from my own experience!). Or rent an e-bike – which are available nearby – and explore the mountains on a bicycle. A 100 km bike track runs past the agriturismo, connecting Lake Como and the skiing village of Bormio. Ideal for a day of relaxed pedalling among the mountains. A 20-minute drive from the agriturismo will bring you to one of the longest Tibetan-style suspension bridges in Italy. If you like even more adrenaline, go rafting or book a trip in a glider plane.
For foodies who love pasta, cheese and good wine
Valtellina is not only ideal for fun activities in the mountains, its rich cuisine will leave no gourmet indifferent. The steep mountain slopes are dotted with small vineyards with micro-climates that are favourable to producing the best wines in the country. How have these wines been kept secret from northern Europeans? Production is limited, and the local residents like the wine too much themselves. Even the owner of the agriturismo has a few vineyards nearby, and he gladly lets you taste his wines, and tells you all about them. This valley is also known for its meat products (Bresaola) and alpine cheese, an ingredient that features in many local dishes such as pizzoccheri (a pasta dish) or sciatt (deep-fried cheese balls). If you ask him, the owner will give directions to local delicatessens that he frequents himself, and trattorias and restaurants where you can gorge on these local delights.
Authenthic villages and Lake Como
Places nearby to visit vary from sleepy mountain villages and an authentic provincial town, to lively ski villages like Bormio and Livigno. One thing is certain, you experience the real Italy here.
About 30 minutes away by car is Lake Como, great for a day at the beach, for sauntering along a boulevard or doing various water sports like supping, sailing, kyting and surfing.
Bernina Express, a train journey through the Swiss Alps
An absolute must is a day on the Bernina Express: one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys. This railway line between Tirano (situated 45 minutes from the agriturismo) and St. Moritz is justly listed as UNESCO world heritage. The line traverses the Alps and passes the Bernina pass at 2328 meters, the highest point of the journey. If you get off the train here, you can have a nice walk and get on the next train to continue your journey. St. Moritz, a fashionable winter sports resort for the rich and famous, has a fascinating history. There is also a stunning lake that you can walk all around.
Breakfast room with large panorama windows
The agriturismo of this young host is the perfect homebase from which to explore this valley and its many attractions, Start your day with a lovely breakfast, with excellent coffee and local products, in the breakfast room with large panorama windows, surrrounded by the mountain peaks of the Alps. After your exciting day out, what could be nicer than to return to the agriturismo and settle down on its terrace with a glass of the agriturismo's excellent wine.
Modern rooms with TV and Wifi
There are 10 modern rooms on the first and second floor of the house (standard, classic and superior). The superior rooms have big windows with a panoramic view; some of the standard and classic rooms have a balcony. All of the rooms have their own bathroom with shower, and are equipped with a tv, hair-dryer and Wifi. Some of the rooms have the option to add an extra bed.
A little gem in the mountains
Would you like to see and taste another side of Italy, and be surprised by exciting activities? Then I can wholeheartedly recommend this agriturismo. Its enthusiastic young host has lots of absorbing stories to tell about his own wine and this beautiful mountain valley, stories no lover of Italy would want to miss.
