Agriturismo with magnificent view of a charming medieval village
The owner of this new agriturismo did not need to try hard to convince me it was well worth a visit. One photo of its magnificent view did it: Two days later I was knocking on their door. I was cordially received, enjoyed a lovely cappuccino in the breakfast room, and was then given a tour of the site.
This old farm was practically a ruin when the owners bought it. They set to work to transform it, using the existing traditional materials as much as possible, into a beautiful authentic Tuscan farm equipped with every modern comfort: wood-beamed ceilings and terracotta tiled floors together with airco and modern bathrooms with rain shower or hydromassage bath.
Pool, veggie plot and lavender
The garden of the agriturismo has a great 1000-year-old olive tree and an enormous oak which provides shade on hot summer days. The generously sized pool has 4 depths, and beside it is a pergola-shaded area with loungers. There is a veggie plot with crops that change according to the season. A lavender field of 8,000 plants turns into a purple oasis twice a year. The lavender is used to produce a lovely fragrant oil. The owners conceived a passion for lavender during a stay in Provence. They have also lived in several places in Italy and Spain.
After their many wanderings, it was in these Tuscan hills that they wanted to settle. No wonder, I think to myself, as I revel in the quiet, panoramic surroundings and typical Tuscan views. Yet it is only a 10-minute drive to a lively bustling village with shops, terraces and restaurants. And there are numerous wine farms in the region, many of which can be visited for a wine-tasting. Pienza, renowned for its sheep’s cheese and well worth visiting, is just half an hour away.
Also at a similar distance is Cortona. This characteristic little town owes its fame to the bestseller novel “Under the Tuscan sun” by Frances Mayes. Another attractive destination is Lake Trasimeno. I can recommend lunch at the little bar Puntabella. As its name already suggests: a beautiful place with a breath-taking view of Lago di Trasimeno.
Or are you in the mood for a relaxing day by the pool with a bite to eat at home? Of course! Simple dishes are served on request. A salad, for instance, or a cheese and salumi platter. The owners are happy to prepare such dishes for you!
5 rooms and one suite
There are 2 standard rooms, both measuring 18m2 and situated on the ground floor, each with a little terrace. Their bathrooms are fitted with a rain shower. Situated next to these (also at ground level) are 2 larger Superior rooms of 26m2, both with a double bed and single sofa-bed. These rooms also have their own terrace. The bathrooms of the Superior rooms have hydromassage tubs (and hand-held shower). Finally, there is a ground-floor room next to the owners’ home This room also measures 26m2 and has its own little garden and a bathroom with a shower.
The 34m2 suite is situated on the first floor above the breakfast room. In addition to a double bedroom, there is a living room with sofa-bed. Its spacious first-floor terrace offers a splendid view and complete privacy.
All of the rooms are provided with wifi, airco, minibar and comfortable outdoor seating area.
In short
Small agriturismo with lovely view of a charming medieval village. As the final 700 metres to the agriturismo are unpaved, there is total tranquillity around this lovely place.
